Issues in 2014:
Note: The following issues were reported by the citizens of District 2. They have been ranked according to "most comments" or submissions ; however the number of duplicates are not listed. Also, the contradictions or opposite views are are not a mistake, rather they are representative of the citizen's views.
- Vandalizing mailboxes possible identity thefts
- Need more police and need more patrols (gang problem remains)
- Graffiti /tagging is getting out of hand and makes the city look bad
- Need more crosswalks around parks and schools
- Speeding in general but especially in school zones, requesting more stop signs and speed bumps
- Need more traffic officers during rush hours and around schools
- Police don't want to deal with small issues and discourage citizens from filing a report
- Safety at schools growing concern (specifically racial tensions and heroin use)
- Code enforcement issues with property and vehicles
- Profiling still occurring
- Smoke shops and spice sales attract the wrong people.
- Need more Law Enforcement in school, SRO, YAT, locker searches, etc. / traffic issues as well
- Many parents feel crime is up in the school (drugs, fights, bullying, etc.)
- Use SRO's with traffic, intervention, prevention, truancy, etc.
- Need intervention programs (truancy, delinquency, etc.)
- Need more after school programs and need more funding for it
- Many Measure M supporters with few opposed to it
- Money alone hasn't created opportunities, need better education for more opportunities
- Need more teachers and out of the box ideas to get the kids involved
- Need more outlets for youth - need more sports programs and fields
- Get a Recreation Center similar to Riverside
- Need aggressive marketing plan to attract
- Need more high income housing not low income apartments / rentals (increase property values)
- Warehouses belong along the 215 not the 60
- Moreno Valley needs to attract the right business, enough 99 cent stores, etc.
- Re-vitalize old town and bring back Farmer's Market
- Look at destination shopping not traditional browsing
- Warehouses will create jobs and revenues
- Need to find a balance between bedroom community and business / warehouses
- Bedroom community not industrial center can't handle traffic and pollution
- Need high paying careers not low wage temporary jobs
- Lower development fees and increase partnership
- There is an imbalance between jobs and residents
- Code enforcement issues need to be addressed including homes in disrepair
- Animal control issues and deplorable conditions in the Shelter
- Look at sharing public spaces for community use
- Need accountability and responsibility
- Need to keep promises
- Need to listen to the people
- Concerns over integrity of the recall efforts
- Concerns over private persons/businesses endorsing specific candidates; buying the election
- Candidates promise the world but what will they actually deliver
- Not business friendly one person described the eight month ordeal to open their business
- Need more street lights and sidewalks, want bike lanes and trails
- Easier access and community use of public spaces
- Concerns over "Gateway Project" over-development of Box Springs area
- Need to renovate and revitalize the mall like Victoria Gardens, etc.
- Need to attract businesses to fill the vacant shops and warehouses
- Need more / better public transportation
- Landscaping issues, drainage issues and water conservation, etc.
- Live within our means
- Need fiscally responsible government
- Measure M can raise taxes well beyond what they claim
- Our schools are in disrepair and "our kids" need Measure M
- Most people support term limits but the answer varied on number of terms 3-4 being most popular
- Most people supported the idea of a directly elected mayor but without an increase in salary and without losing districts
- A few folks supported both measures as written and expect the City Council to "do more with less"
